Healthy Green Living

"Sometimes trying to live 'Green' can bring an unexpected problem; reusing plastic bottles may not be the best way to live 'green' or be eco-chic"

We all agree that we need water to stay healthy and to stay hydrated, and even if you disagree with Al Gore’s approach to resolving climate change, we agree that we should take care of our planet for health and economic reasons.

Most people know that non-biodegradable plastic water bottles are harmful to the environment. Most empty plastics are not recycled so a lot of them end up in landfills, parks, streets, sewers—and eventually end up on beaches and surface water.

Due to the present state of the economy, there is a need to buy reusable products just save a little. As the saying goes “penny saved is penny earned,” every penny saved will add up and go a long way. As a result, people have are to reusing disposable plastic water bottles. For some, it’s an effort to be “green” and eco-chic—reduce plastic waste being disposed to landfills, and for others, it’s a way to save some pennies.

But there is a problem . . .

The problem with reusing these plastics is that they may contain bacteria as reported in this news article. Trying to live “green” sometimes may bring a costly price tag. According to KPTV news report in Oregon, a laboratory tested water bottles that have been used over and over again—some for months. The test revealed bacteria colony counts (between 2,400 and 4,100 colonies). The test result showed that even a plastic bottle that was washed regularly still harbored bacteria.

What’s the solution? . . . A reusable environmentally-friendly bottle

You can be “green” in safe and healthy way. Reusable stainless steel or glass water bottles are affordable, and environmentally-friendly. These eco-chic bottles are portable, dishwasher-friendly, and you can refill and reuse every time you go to gym or office. They are also ideal for biking, hiking, or sporting events. They are the healthy alternatives to plastic water bottles that can leach harmful chemicals into your water. They are bio-degradable and will not be harmful to the environment.
