Filter Radon From Home Drinking Water with eSpring Water Treatment System

eSpring Carbon Water Treatment System - Above Counter Unit with Diverter Kit to Filter Radon From Drinking Water
The best way to filter radon from water entering the whole house is to buy an independently tested water filtration system in order to ensure effective performance. To be effective the water filter must be able to remove enough radon that will make the water safe to drink and the air in the house or bathroom safe to breathe.  EPA says the safe radon contamination level in drinking water supplies should be no higher than 300 pCi/L. But private well users need to do their own testing.  According an EPA publication, if private well water test results show high levels of radon, the most effective treatment is to remove radon from the water right before it enters the home by using a certified point-of-entry treatment. Radon can also be filtered at the faucet or point-of-use.

Radon is an odorless, radioactive gas formed from the decay of radium, uranium and thorium. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), exposure to high levels results in an increased risk of lung cancer. Some radon stays in the water; drinking water containing radon also presents a risk of developing internal organ cancers, primarily stomach cancer. Another problem with radon is that it has a radioactive half-life of about 4 days; this means that one-half of a given amount of radon will decay to other products every 4 days. The good news is a certified filter can reduce radon from drinking water to prevent radon gas from escaping into the air space within the home.

Professioal Lab #RW103 Radon In Water Test Kit
Self test kits are available for find out if water is contaminated with radon. Experts suggest that the right water treatment system should remove radon before it becomes airborne.

There are many home water treatment systems that will probably listed as capable of removing radon in water. But experts have determined that the best treatment technologies to effectively filter radon from drinking water are granular activated carbon (GAC) filters. NSF, WQA, and UL test and certify water treatment under NSF/ANSI Standard 53 for filtering multiple harmful chemicals including radon. The eSpring Carbon Water Treatment Systems happen to be one of the leading certified filtration devices for radon.
