Arsenic Water Filtration Systems

Arsenic filtration systems can come as undersink, countertop, or whole house filtering units. Multi-Pure and Crystal Quest systems are the most famous filter brands designed to reduce the concentrations of this harmful chemical that could be present in drinking water.   The chemical is highly toxic and it is known to be carcinogenic and it could be present in public drinking water or private well water.  Because it has no color, taste or odor it could be present in water and the only way to know is to perform a test. The maximum contaminant level (MCL) set by EPA for Arsenic V is 0.010 mg/l (10 parts per billion). Any level that is greater than the MCL is considered unhealthy. A test can reveal how much of the chemical is in well or public drinking water.

Analytical test can be performed either by a certified lab or by using a self test kit. Self testing kits are very inexpensive. You can find arsenic testing kit for less than $20.00, or for as high as 169.99 on Amazon. Even if you hire a testing lab the result will almost be the same with a home testing kit. You can save yourself some money if you buy a home testing kit. How to choose the system designed for filtering arsenic in water.

If the test result shows high concentration a filtration system may be considered. Here are some simple water filter tips to selecting an arsenic filtration system:

  • The filtration system has been tested and certified for Arsenic removal to meet ANSI/NSF 53 and 58 for Health Effects;
  • An NSF logo must be displayed in the descriptions or on the box.
